Dmitry Golubchikov was born in the Republic of Karelia, a region in northwest Russia near the Finnish border. His early affinity for mechanics and engineering would later shape his career in high-end fabrication and motorcycle customization. Before founding his own workshop, he accrued experience working in motorsports arenas, which helped hone his skills in precision engineering.

Although many articles refer to his shop as “Zillers Garage” (or “Zillers Custom Garage”), Dmitry often does much of the technical design and fabrication himself, only calling in support for larger projects.

Zillers Garage is based in Moscow, Russia, and specializes in radical, futuristic, often aviation-inspired custom motorcycles.Their work often fuses advanced engineering with highly artistic, sculptural aesthetics.

In fact, their workshop proudly claims to be the only Russian atelier to win the AMD World Championship of motorcycle customization (Cologne), a feat that brings them international prestige. They also emphasize their record in Russian and Asian custom shows, and prior to BMW’s pullback in Russia they were a key custom partner for BMW’s motorcycle division in Eastern markets.

One of their notable projects is a body kit / conversion for the BMW R nineT, commissioned by BMW Motorrad Russia - essentially wrapping nearly everything but the motor, drive arm, and parts of the frame in hand-shaped aluminum bodywork. That build is futuristic, with integrated lighting, a pneumatic “lift” system so the bike rests on its belly when parked, and hidden storage compartments and custom trim.

In 2018, Golubchikov won the Freestyle class at the AMD World Championships with a custom Yamaha SR400. This was a milestone as it marked the first time a builder from Russia claimed that class.

That same period saw him working on a striking “Vincent-powered” build - i.e. a custom chassis and body built around a Vincent (or Vincent replica) engine, with nearly every component (frame, body, wheels, trim) made by hand.

His work on the custom BMW R nineT (Project 801) was featured broadly in international design and automotive press, cementing his reputation for blending art and engineering.
